The Albany County incident began at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, when troopers reportedly witnessed Jason Benn, of Cohoes, driving erratically in Albany, on Washington Avenue Extension.

State Police said the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier police pursuit in Colonie.

When troopers attempted to stop Benn, he refused to pull over, triggering a pursuit.

During the chase, Benn struck multiple parked cars and police eventually terminated the pursuit out of safety concerns.

A short time later, troopers found the vehicle crashed in the town of Knox, along Knox-Gallupville Road. Benn suffered severe injuries in the crash and was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no other reports of injuries.

According to State Police, Benn did not have permission to drive the vehicle and was found to be carrying narcotics.

The crash is under investigation.
